Bathing Guinea Pigs

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

Bathing guinea pigs is much easier than doing so for birds; a bird washes itself in a puddle of water. Cavies are intelligent animals that will learn to perform the tricks quickly. They are not noisy and adjust to the life style of the owner quickly. They have very little odor. Just like with most pets, these animals are recommended to be bought from a private, hobbyist or show cavy breeder. One of the main advantages in buying from a reputable source is that breeding has usually been carefully planned and thought through with regard to producing robust, healthy animals of good temperament. Besides, you will always be able to look at the parents of the buying animal and, in future, if further keeping of the animal is not suitable, you may return the animal to the breeder. When keeping these small rodents, do not forget to provide them with necessary care. Bathe them twice a year in a sink lined with a towel or rag. You can also use a hair dryer set to a warm setting. The sink should be half filled with lukewarm water. Use shampoo specially made for these animals, which is sold at pet stores. Brush long haired breeds regularly with a soft brush. It is also necessary to trim their nails every six weeks. Special diet is also important for these animals. These animals are mainly plant-eaters; however their diet should also contain some amount of protein. Bathing guinea pigs is much easier than doing so for birds; a bird washes itself in a puddle of water.
