When considering a pet for a companion, guinea pig, an exotic chick (parrot birds) and other small pets are an easy option. A cage should be one foot by one foot for each cavy. These animals will also need a play room which can be made of flat wooden tray about 2 feet wide by 3 feet long with a side all around at least 8 inches high. You can either buy it from a pet shop or just make it by yourself. You should line the floor of the cage, playroom or hutch with newspaper. Use shredded paper for bedding. To keep the animals' teeth worn down, put in a short piece of a fruit tree branch to chew on or buy chews from your pet shop. There should also be a low, heavy food bowl and a water sipper bottle in the cage. Donít forget about cardboard tubes, boxes etc. to play with and chew and a clay pipe, pot or bowl to climb on, in and through.
