Female cavies should be first bred before 7 months of age; normally, a female should be first bred between 3 and 7 months of age. Males should be 3-4 months old at their first breeding. After the gestation period of 62 to 70 days, 2-5 babies are born. They weigh about 70-100 grams. The babies should receive proper care and handling.
