Adopt A Guinea Pig

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

If you wish to adopt a guinea pig, talk to breeders about getting some of new babies. These animals are also known as cavies. These rodents are native to Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Peru. These funny creatures were introduced to Europe in the 1500ís and brought to the US as pets in the 1770ís. They probably got their names from being sold for an English gold coin issued from 1663 to 1813. An average life span of a healthy animal is about 4-6 years. These funny little mammals are rather easy to handle. If you wish to adopt a guinea pig, talk to breeders about getting some of new babies.

Adopt A Guinea Pig

  -

breeders, babies

Cavies have good eye sight. They are social animals and should live in groups or in pairs. Animals in groups should be of the same sex if you do not plan their breeding. A small cage made of wood, metal, or plastic will be fine for these rodents. Use wood shavings for the bedding.Never use sawdust or cedar shavings for this purpose, because cider is toxic for these animals. Cavies also need a play room. Because of their constantly-growing front teeth, cavies need something to chew in order to wear down their teeth. For this purpose use such chew items as apple, birch or willow branches, dried (whole grain) bread crusts, hay and/or firm vegetables such as carrots and broccoli stems. If you wish to adopt a guinea pig, talk to breeders about getting some of new babies.
